Vocal Studies: Areas of Concentration
Students generally come to voice lessons looking for help in the following areas of study. While interests may include two or more styles, it is common to start in one area and cross over into a new or additional area of concentration after the first is mastered. Simultaneous study of more than one style is always possible.

Choral and Church Choir Singers Track
This track is designed for singers who are in choral groups or church choirs and for those who need encouragement or skills to be ready to join a choir. 1 year of more of private study, followed by intermittent ongoing vocal coaching. Topics covered:knowing the difference between singing to blend in vs. singing to stand out; developing good vocal technique for all of the aspects of choral and group singing; and strengthening your sight-singing and music theory skills.

The Pop/Country/Rock TrackThis track is ideal for singers whose primary interests include one of the following or a combination: sounding better and exhibiting more polish on songs they already know, covering songs by established recording industry stars for their own enjoyment, competing in local talent/karaoke style contests, or for starting or joining a band. (Singers in established original bands note the singer/songwriter and adult categories below.) These students will most likely benefit from1 year of private lessons: Topics covered will include; Technique for Legit and Belt styles, Stage Presence, Posture and Alignment, Care of the Voice and Injury/Strain Prevention, Basic Keyboard skills, Microphone techniques, Basics of Sight Singing.

The Jazz and Blues Track
This track is for singers who already know that they want to focus on standard jazz and blues repertoire. The emphasis is on establishing an original sound, improvisation and innovation, and gaining an awareness of the history of vocal jazz in the twentieth century. 2 years of private lessons followed by transfer to a Professional Vocal Jazz teacher.Topics covered will include; Technique for Legit and Belt styles, Stage Presence, Posture and Alignment, Care of the Voice and Injury/Strain Prevention, Intermediate Keyboard skills, Microphone Techniques, Sight Singing, Ear training, and Music Theory, Beginning Improvisation.

The Classical/Musical Theater Track
This track is for singers who want to perform as soloists at school or church, have lead parts in musicals, or who may be considering majoring or minoring in Music or Music Theater in college. This is the recommended pre-professional track leading to fluency in music reading and confidence and poise in performing solo vocal repertoire.3 plus years of Private Voice Lessons:Topics covered will include; Vocal Technique, emphasis on acoustic singing , Stage Presence, Posture and Alignment, Care of the Voice and Injury/Strain Prevention, Acting and Movement Techniques, Intermediate Keyboard skills, Sight Singing , Music Theory, Diction for singing in Italian and English, Audition Techniques. Listening assignments will be given and attendance at local vocal performances is encouraged.

The Singer Songwriter Track
This track is designed to meet the needs of established or budding Singer Songwriters who need assistance keeping their voices healthy and staying inspired and productive in today's competitive original music scene.1 to 2 year(s) of private voice study, followed by ongoing intermittent coaching:Topics Covered will include; Technique for Legit and Belt styles, Stage Presence, Posture and Alignment including accompanying oneself with a secondary instrument, i.e. guitar or keyboard, Care of the Voice and Injury/Strain Prevention, Intermediate Keyboard skills, and Microphone Techniques.

The Voice as a Therapeutic or Spiritual Outlet Track
for Singers or Speakers in any profession or vocation
This track is designed for people, who are interested in using their voices as a way to release tension, tune into their deeper essence, and/or improve the energy of their communication. While these singers may also like to perform at times, this is more of a meditative and healing approach to voice. This is also the track for people recovering from voice injuries.1 year of private voice study.Topics covered may include breathing, relaxation, posture and alignment, toning, harmonic overtone singing, guided vocal meditations(some practitioners refer to this as sound healing), intuitive work. Hands on Healing work is also available in these sessions.

Professional Coaching for Musicians includes Goal Setting, Marketing, Time and Practice Management, Survey and Critique of recordings. This can involve attending live performances, listening to recordings or demos, and giving feedback on technique, style, and media formatting issues.
